BYD Becomes Singapore’s Best-Selling Passenger Car Brand in 2024 with 6,191 Units Registered

According to the Land Transport Authority (LTA)’s 2024 data on new car registrations by authorised dealers, BYD emerged as Singapore’s top-selling passenger car brand, surpassing long-time industry leader Toyota in direct dealer sales. However, when factoring in parallel imports, Toyota retained its position as the nation’s most popular car brand overall.

BYD Leads the Market with Record Sales Growth

BYD saw a remarkable surge in sales, registering 6,191 new vehicles in 2024—over four times its 2023 figure of 1,416 units, marking the first time the Chinese automaker entered the four-digit sales bracket. A significant portion (65%) of these sales came from the BYD ATTO 3, a cost-effective electric SUV that has gained strong traction among Singaporean drivers.


How Other Brands Ranked in 2024

Toyota (Borneo Motors) – 5,736 UnitsToyota’s authorised agent, Borneo Motors, secured 5,736 new car registrations in 2024. Additionally, parallel importers sold another 2,140 units, bringing Toyota’s total to 7,876 units, making it the most popular brand when including parallel-imported cars.

BMW – 5,042 UnitsBMW claimed the third spot, with its dealers—Performance Motors and Eurokars—delivering 5,042 units. Unlike Toyota and Mercedes-Benz, BMW had minimal sales from parallel imports, with only 29 additional units registered.

Mercedes-Benz – 4,887 UnitsRanking fourth, Mercedes-Benz saw 4,887 new registrations through authorised dealerships. With an additional 214 units sold via parallel imports, Mercedes’ total registrations slightly edged past BMW’s when parallel-imported models were included.

Tesla – 2,384 UnitsFifth place went to Tesla, BYD’s main rival in the all-electric vehicle segment. The American EV giant registered 2,384 new cars in 2024, marking its first four-digit annual sales in Singapore after three years of coming close to the milestone.

Hyundai – 2,052 UnitsIn sixth place, Hyundai secured 2,052 new registrations, continuing its steady presence in the Singapore market.
